I can't believe my little man had his last day of school on Wednesday.

His 7th Birthday is on Sunday. Boy how time flies......

Today was Brandon's dad (Nick) and his finance's (Heather) wedding shower. Through the last couple years Heather has become one of my best friends. Kaitlyn and I had lots of fun. Thanks for inviting us!

Cake Nightmare

Tonight was my first cake decorating class. In class we watched the instructor show us how to frost and then make shells and stars. We then got to make some shells and stars ourselves...all of which went well. Our homework was to go home and practice. For next week's class we need to bring a cake (not iced) and three batches of buttercream frosting.

So silly me goes to the store and buys four cake mixes and two bags of confectioners sugar all the while thinking to myself...Oh this is easy....I'm gonna go home and make this awesome looking cake.

Well....the following is what actually transpired.

First....I made a triple batch of frosting...bad idea....three cups of shortening and 1 1/2 pounds of powder sugar later I had a semi decent batch of frosting.

Then....

The mess I made while reading and practicing from the instruction book.

The cake with the top leveled off.....everything still going ok.

My finished result....you can't tell from the pic but this is only a one layer finished product.

Here is what was supposed to be the top layer.

Notice the blobs of frosting mixed up in between the cake clumps.

The frosting just wouldn't stick to the cake and kept tearing chunks of it off. Wish me better luck in class next week when we actually frost the cakes in front of the instructor....

FOOD!

She gets it in her fist....but rarely in her mouth...

Kaitlyn sure loves to explore new foods lately. We've been giving little gerber puffs and cheerios. She really enjoys reaching for them and trying to pick them up. She rakes her fingers across them and gets them into her little fist. Most of the time the end up on the floor though because she hasn't yet mastered how to get them from her fist to her little mouth. It's so funny to watch the whole process and the expressions on her face.

Today we went to the doctors because she has developed seasonal allergies (just like her big brother). She weighed 15.8 lbs. I can't believe how big she's getting!

The rest of us have been battling strep. It all started two weeks ago when I got strep and mono at the same time. Then Friday I had some sort of stomach bug and the little boy that is my sitter's little brother got strep. My husband followed on Saturday. What a weekend! I forgot how hard it was to do everything myself. I was absolutely exhausted by Sunday night. Brandon seems to have yet again escaped getting sick (knock on wood). I don't get how I'm so sickly and my kids are so healthy. I'm so thankful they haven't gotten sick though, it's been the worst strep I've heard about in a loooong time. My husbands throat was even bleeding when he went to the doc. EEEEWWWW!

Wednesday I start my cake decorating classes. I'm so EXCITED. I'll try to get some pics and post them. My dad already has an order in for his birthday. Between the classes and my scrapbooking project I don't think I'm going to not be busy till fall. Wish me luck!

Old Fashioned Kaitlyn

Like I said earlier, I took Kaitlyn to go down the slide. I held her while she went down about a foot and a half. As you can see from above...she was less than thrilled, lol. She cried so hard that my husband could hear her across the street in the back yard with the leaf blower on.

IT'S FINALLY SPRING!

Spring is FINALLY here! It's absolutely beautiful outside. Even though I'm still trying hard to get better, we couldn't resist getting outside and absorbing some of the warm sunshine. Kaitlyn is having a blast touching the grass and watching Mommy clean out the front flower beds while Daddy cleans the cars. I think we'll take her across the street to the playground later and put her on one of the smaller slides.

Sorry I've been away so long. My newest project is to scrapbook the last 7 years of Brandon's life. I'm hoping to finish it by his 7th birthday, June 7. It's coming along quite nicely actually but I still have a long long way to go. I'll scan some pages and post them soon.

Anyways, I'm at home sick today, again. This time I think I have a pretty nasty ear infection. Kaitlyn is with my mom and they just sent me the above very cute picture of Kaitlyn in her new summer hat. Notice how well she is sitting now. She can completely sit by herself and play with her toys now. The little dolly on her side is one of her favorite toys.
